Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so it’s super important that you start your day off right with clean eating.

The best way to stick to clean eating is to start with cleaning— that is, make sure you keep your breakfasts clean! When you start your day off with breakfast, you want to make sure you’re setting yourself up for healthy and energizing meals throughout the day.

The idea of clean eating is to prioritize your health and energy at all times. What better way to start your day off right and with enough energy for whatever you need to do than eating clean?

Breakfast— and more importantly, healthy breakfast — is very important, but it can be tricky to get it right when there are just so many different choices. Fortunately for you, there are a lot of homecooked breakfast recipes that promote eating clean.

But what if you don’t have time to make something yourself? Hardly anyone can devote a lot of time every day to make an elaborate breakfast— we all have places to go. Luckily there are a lot of ways to eat clean when it comes to on the go breakfasts, too. You just have to know where to look!

Well, look no further than here to find some great ideas for clean eating breakfasts, whether it be homecooked or on the go!

Homecooked Breakfast Ideas

Clean eating for breakfast is probably not as difficult as you might think, you just need to find recipes that are right for you and your health needs.

With the amount of choices available to you— some which might surprise you —you won’t have to compromise on taste in order to eat healthy for the most important meal of the day.

There are some general things you do in order to improve upon your homecooked breakfasts in a healthy way. For starters, use plain rather than fruity yogurt in recipes that may call for it.

Fruit flavoring can come with a lot of added sugar, so it’s better to add fresh fruit and granola to plain yogurt. Oats and granola are great, healthy ingredients to include in your endeavors.

Using fruit in your homecooked breakfasts just in general can also add to the sweetness level a lot without unnecessary amounts of sugar. Make your own jam or fruit preserves rather than using the store bought, sugary kind.

A great thing to make and add fruit to as a sweetener is oatmeal— and yes, oatmeal should be included as a homecooked option. Making your own oatmeal is easy, and will again limit the added sugar thrown into the premade mixes you can buy at the supermarket.

Avocado toast is a super popular healthy breakfast choice, and for good reason— avocados have healthy fats that will make you feel full and antioxidants that are good for your skin and eyes.

You may be worried about the bread, but just be careful about what kind you choose. For example, go for whole wheat rather than white to use in your homecooked breakfasts.

Carbohydrates are associated with being unhealthy by many people, but like most things, they’re very good for you in moderation. The key is to have enough carbs to keep your energy up, but not so many that you have a lot to digest— this will have the opposite of the desired effect.

Breakfast tacos are another great clean eating recipe to start your morning off with. Tacos give you the freedom to choose what ingredients to include, and this means that you can be as healthy as you want. They can also be super easy to make!

There are plenty of great home cooked clean eating recipes for breakfast. A lot recommend eggs, which are a great source of protein. Omelets with vegetables, frittatas, egg-topped salads and quinoa, quiche, you name it— eggs can be instrumental in eating clean for breakfast.

Though eggs definitely count as a home cooked breakfast, they cook very quickly, and so you won’t be too pressed for time. In addition, there are many different ways to make eggs, so they’re a healthy food that also offers a lot of freedom.

A super simple breakfast idea is to cook an egg in an avocado or bell pepper— these dishes can be very filling despite how small they are.

Salads are a great breakfast choice in general, whether you plan to include a hard-boiled egg into the mix or not. However, if you want something that’s more conventionally ‘breakfast,’ there are other options, too.

Muffins are a great healthy breakfast choice, though they may not seem like it. Choose a healthy muffin recipe, and have a breakfast that tastes like dessert even though it’s super good for you.

Even pancakes can be healthy when you pick the right recipe— making your own batter with limited ingredients or using sweet potatoes for the flavor are two ways to do this.

Last but certainly not least, never underestimate the power of a smoothie. They’re incredibly easy to make, and you can pretty much make a smoothie or protein shake with whatever ingredients you want as long as you’re working with the right recipe.

Smoothies are healthy, delicious, energizing, and super easy to drink while you’re moving around— getting ready or on the go. You can even take a smoothie with you to work!

However, if you’re in that much of a hurry, you might not have time to make a smoothie in the first place, which is why knowing how to eat clean for grab and go breakfasts is also so important.

Clean Eating for Grab and Go

One of the best ways to consistently eat clean is to prepare meals. If you make breakfast dishes the night before or whenever you have time prior to a busy morning, you’ll be able to take your food and get on the move.

So the aforementioned smoothies or muffins could work very well for this if prepared ahead of time, but there are a lot of other dishes you can do, too. Breakfast burritos are a favorite for how portable and easy to eat they are.

Breakfast sandwiches are another example of a great grab and go food. You could make your own and pop it in the microwave the next morning— even if preparing food ahead of time can be daunting, it beats getting a breakfast sandwich from a fast food place where you won’t know exactly what’s in it.

There are plenty of things that you wouldn’t really need to prepare, though! Fresh fruit on its own can make a great breakfast, and so it should definitely have a place in your fridge.

Dried fruit can be really good for you, too, and sometimes spare even more time— and make it easier to be on the move with your meal. A mix of oats, nuts, and dried fruit is the ultimate healthy breakfast.

An image of several open jars with spoons in them sitting on a wooden table. The jars are glass, and each one is full of a different kinds of nut or dried fruit.
A very easy way to put together a grab and go breakfast is to create a mix of things you already have in your pantry that don’t need to be cooked or otherwise prepared in any way before you’re able to eat them. Simply scoop some dried fruit and nuts into a bag, and you can be on your way with a delicious, filling breakfast.

If you’ve got a bit more time to spare, however, pairing fresh fruit with other simple ingredients can be a game changer, such as bananas and peanut butter, or berries and plain yogurt.

Toasting something may take a little more time, but since one can easily be out the door with a piece of toast or a bagel— again, preferably whole grain —it doesn’t constitute homecooked. Still, they do count for clean eating as long as you’re selective.

Well, what if you’ve got no time on your hands at all? Say you forget to prepare something the night before, and you’re running a bit late, and you want something that can be in your hand so you can be out the door.

Well, it’s hard to find a completely fulfilling breakfast that will fit this criteria, but many people go with granola or nutrition bars as the thing that will hold them over and keep them energized until lunch time.

This is a great idea, but there’s only one problem with it— there are so many different types of grab-and-go bars to choose from.

However, we’ve luckily created the perfect grab-and-go breakfast so that you won’t have to waste your time in a supermarket aisle looking at countless boxes of nutrition bars.
