Or to bring with you to the movie theater…shh!

When we think of movies and movie theaters, we think of food. Popcorn, candy, nachos, etc. are all common snacks we associate with the movies. However, if you have more of a health conscious snack preference, there are some other delicious treats that are perfect for you to munch on as you watch your movie.

Savory snacks

We all have different preferences when it comes to our snacks. Some of us prefer salty and spicier options, others prefer more sweet options. Starting off with savory snacks, here are some of the best options you can come up with!

Deviled eggs

Deviled eggs are such a satisfying treat and very easy to make. Are deviled eggs healthy you may be wondering?

Well, let’s look at the four main ingredients of a common deviled egg recipe:

  • Greek yogurt.
  • Dijon mustard.
  • Lemon juice.
  • Eggs, of course.

Greek yogurt is a dairy product packed with protein. Contrary to most regular yogurts, greek yogurt contains lots of nutrients and even a few health benefits. Greek yogurt is rich in vitamin B12, riboflavin, and selenium. Greek yogurt also contains some amount of nutrients such as magnesium and copper. Another healthy ingredient present in this mixture is lemon juice. Lemon juice is known to be an excellent source of Vitamin C which helps in bone formation, tissue repair, and gum health.

How to make this deviled eggs recipe:

  • First, boil your eggs.
  • Let eggs sit for ten minutes, then place them in a cold ice bath until the eggs are cooled completely.
  • Peel off all the egg shells and then cut the eggs in half.
  • Remove the egg yolk from either side of the egg.
  • Mash the yolks with a fork and then add in all of your other ingredients.
  • Once all the ingredients are combined, place the mixture into a piping bag to use for the eggs.

Peanut butter with whole grain crackers

Need something crunchy to snack on? Try some whole grain crackers alongside some peanut butter spread on top. Peanut butter is a major source of the fatty acid omega-6, and peanuts have been known to prevent heart and vascular disease due to a type of amino acid called arginine. The perfect snack to go alongside the peanut butter are whole grain crackers instead of other snack options typically high in carbs and saturated fats. Whole grains are linked to numerous health benefits including a lower risk of diabetes, cancer, and heart disease.

Sweet snacks

Along with savory snacks, I do love a snack every once in a while that will satisfy my sweet tooth. Processed sugars such as high fructose syrup present in many of the chocolates and candies we eat can end up draining a lot of our body’s energy. Instead, choose from these healthier options that you can buy or make yourself!

Oatmeal banana cookies

This recipe calls for no flour or egg!

What a better way to wind the night down and enjoy a movie, along with some warm cookies? Even better, these ones are actually healthy! This is an easy recipe where all you need are oats, bananas, and chocolate chips.

To make this recipe:

  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit and line a baking sheet with some parchment paper.
  • First, peel the bananas and mash them together with a fork in a large bowl.
  • Once the mixture is mashed well together add in your oats and chocolate chips.
  • Scoop a tablespoon of dough each onto the baking sheet.
  • Bake for 15-20 minutes and enjoy.

Oats contain beta glucan, a soluble fiber that can help to reduce our cholesterol levels which can reduce the risk of certain diseases such as diabetes.

Dark chocolate pretzels

Dark chocolate is my absolute favorite, I typically prefer dark chocolate over milk chocolate on any given day. What goes best with chocolate? Pretzels of course. Dark chocolate combined with this delicious snack provide such a yummy result. Dark chocolate is very rich in antioxidants, and packed with minerals including zinc, copper, and magnesium. To reap all the health benefits possible involving this snack option, opt for whole grain pretzels instead of regular pretzels. As stated previously, whole grain offers a variety of health benefits including a decreased risk of heart disease and cancer.

Dried fruit

Dried fruit is one of my favorite options when it comes to finding a sweeter snack. You can find all kinds of options when it comes to dried fruit, but my personal favorites are dried peaches and apricots.

How is dried fruit healthy?

  • One piece of dried fruit contains the same exact nutrients as a piece of regular fruit.
  • Looking at weight, dried fruit actually contains 3.5 times the fiber, vitamins, and minerals present in fresh fruit.
  • Dates are one of the healthiest dried fruits you can find.

Time to snack and watch!

Whether it be savory or sweet (maybe even a mix of both) you can always find healthier snack alternatives such as some of these options and recipes. Happy watching and snacking!
