One simple teaspoon of this spice a day could be the answer to many of your medical issues. Turmeric is a spice, similar to ginger, that gives curry its vibrant yellow color and has also been found to provide many medicinal purposes for the body. Turmeric has rapidly spread across the world, becoming one of the hottest nutrition trends while providing people with many healing benefits. “It's been used as medicine in places like India for centuries to treat issues such as breathing problems. Lately, turmeric has been touted as a super food that can fight cancer, ease depression, and more,” says WebMd, a health care website. Tumeric has also been found to treat issues like heartburn, stomach ulcers, allergies, diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease, and more.

Turmeric has a unique chemical composition of vitamins, minerals, fiber, and phytochemicals that provide the body with many benefits. Curcmin is the main, active ingredient and is what gives tumeric its bright yellow mustard color. This organic chemical provides the body with strong antioxidants and has powerful anti-inflammatory effects. Antioxidants are very important for your body because they protect you from free radicals which are good for your immune system and brain function. These anti-inflammatory effects can be used to promote more youthful skin, if adding to facial cleansers and masks, and work to brighten your skin.

All of these nutrients also help to support the digestive system, getting rid of waste in the body and absorbing essential nutrients. If your digestive system is working at its best, your immune system can be easily supported. This may aid in protecting you against many illnesses and disease. The turmeric root contains phytochemicals that are naturally occurring plant compounds which have the ability to boost healthy functioning of cells, improving the function of the body.  With these properties, tumeric has been integrated into natural treatment methods for common and chronic conditions.

Many studies have been conducted on tumeric as a pain reliever and healing agent for the body. Turmeric comes in many forms like capsules, teas, powders and extracts and has been found to work similarly to certain over-the-counter drugs, like ibuprofen. Some simple ways to benefit from Turmeric are by placing organic turmeric powder in foods such as vegetables or even try it in your favorite smoothies. Many people drink turmeric tea daily to gain its benefits.  Medical News Today stated, “Turmeric adds flavor to food, which explains its presence in curry powder. However, turmeric can also play an important role in digesting that food”. Including turmeric in your day-to-day diet can be the easiest way to enjoy it and you don't need much to be able to receive all of its amazing benefits. Tumeric should be readily available in the spice section at you local food market or online.
